As political polarization and fatigue grow, many communicators are asking whether talking about climate change still helps build support for clean energy and sustainable policies, or whether it actually pushes audiences away. Have the dynamics shifted so much that the most promising path to progress now leads through the side door? Does it require selling the benefits of the transition with a different “why” than stopping climate change?

To explore how to communicate about climate change in 2026, klimaaktiv invited a climate messaging research expert who has an answer: Will Howard. Howard is the Head of Insights and Advisory Services for the US-based Potential Energy Coalition, a nonpartisan, purpose-built communications nonprofit shaping the global narrative on climate change and clean energy through messaging research, proven marketing strategies, and campaigns that create public demand for solutions.

Drawing on current data, focus groups, and real-world experience, Will Howard will explore how climate change can be communicated effectively in 2026:

  • What does the evidence actually tell us about current public attitudes?
  • Which narratives work and which ones backfire or are less effective?
  • Are there relevant differences between the U.S. and Europe?
